In industry, air guns are often called blow guns, air wands, air lances or air blow guns. Often, these are used for cleaning off workstations or details. To facilitate the directing of the airstream, the air gun is often fitted with an extension pipe. Some of the extension pipes are fitted with an air nozzle at the end of the pipe, but most only have an open orifice. Air guns with open pipes are an injury risk for the operator. For example, an open pipe can cause high noise levels and entails a risk that the air enters under the operator’s skin (air embolism).

The biggest reasons dangerous air guns are still used in industry are because few are aware of the dangers or about the safer alternatives.

To create a safe working environment, it is important to use the safest air gun possible. To be a safety air gun the following criteria must be met:

  • Low sound level
  • Fulfils OSHA’s safety regulations
  • Ergonomic design
  • Durable

There are air guns that fulfil one, or a few, of the points, but to be a safety air gun all points should be fulfilled.

In the past, it was very difficult to combine all safety points above with efficient blowing with compressed air.  Today, a unique technology, Silvent Technology, makes it possible.

Ergonomic design that minimises the risk of occupational accidents

A safety air gun should, through design and technique, minimise the risk of occupational injuries such as hearing damage, air embolism and strain.

Silvent Technology lowers the air turbulence and increases the entrainment, which makes it possible to lower the sound level while keeping an efficient blowing force. To fulfil OSHA’s safety regulations and minimise the risk of injuries, Silvent safety air guns are fitted with specially designed air nozzles. The air nozzle design decreases the risk of hearing damage by eliminating the dangerous sound frequencies associated with blowing with compressed air. The safety air guns are developed with the user in mind, designed to combine an ergonomic and functional grip.

Safety air guns for the manufacturing industry

Air guns are common tools in the manufacturing industry. The safety air guns are therefore specially designed to be used in the manufacturing industry and have been developed to fit the operators needs and performance expectations.
